Qualification - Institutional

A.  Who qualifies for the subsidy to an INSTITUTIONAL solar hot water system

Headmasters, principles of hospitals, matrons, chairpersons and administrators of the types of institutions listed below are invited to apply:

  • Boarding Schools, Training Centres, Student's Hostels

  • Hospitals, Clinics, Nursing Homes

  • Old Age Homes, Children's Homes, Orphanages, Community Centres, Hostels For Homeless

B.  What next after the application

The persons in charge of the respective institutions can apply for up to 65% of the total cost of the medium-size solar hot water system to be covered by the Austrian project. During the site visit a co-finance agreement has to be signed between the representatives of the institution and the Austrian Development Agency before the application can be presented to a jury of three assessors which will decide about whether the institution qualifies for the subsidy and to what percentage the Austrian project will take over the costs.

Once the application has been approved and the institution has paid the agreed financial contribution into the project account it will be the business of the project representative to to procure the components and get the system installed as soon as possible. In some cases the institution might be asked to provide building material for collector and tank stands. Apart from the agreed contributions, no further payments will be demanded from the recipient of the subsidy.

C.  What after the installation

Upon completion of the installation the project representative carries out the commissioning of the new solar hot water system in the presence of the installer and a representative of the institution. The person in charge of maintenance receives a detailed description of the system layout and a concise maintenance manual. A short maintenance training course will be offered to staff of institutions with maintenance-heavy solar water heating equipment.

D.  How to fill in and where to send the forms to

The applicants are advised to fill in the application form meticulously. Note that all questions need to be answered and be aware that uncompleted forms will not be considered by the jurors.

The form can be filled in online or offline by marking the respective squares with an “X” or, where required, by entering text in the fields provided. When done click <Submit> to despatch the electronic form automatically.

Another approach would be to save the form, print out a hard copy and answer the questions by hand. If you have access to a scanner, you can email your application as an attachment to enquiries@thesundrum.org.

Alternatively, you may want to fax the pages to +263 4 870293 or send them by post to

Domestic Solar Heating P/L, P.O. Box MP 1125, Mt. Pleasant, Harare, Zimbabwe.

We recommend that you respond as quickly as you can, since the number of subsidy places is limited. Please note that applications are only accepted until the end of August 2008.
